Our Pelican Family

Every member of our team is passionate about providing exceptional childcare. They bring their own personalities and skills to the team making us lucky to have such wonderful people looking after the children.

  • All our staff are fully DBS checked and the majority have 12hr paediatric first aid qualification, child protection and food hygiene training. We are wholly invested in our staff, supporting and encouraging them to grow and give opportunities for further training.

  • Each of our nursery rooms comprises of a room supervisor and a team of caring nursery nurses. These staff members are based in one particular age group in order for the children to have the continuity of seeing the same happy smiling faces each day. Your child will get assigned a ‘key worker’ who will carry out all one to one activities, building a bond with your little one and giving them the best possible care.

  • We appreciate and value our staff and the work they do by paying them at least the real living wage.

Christine Walker (Manager)

Christine has over 20 years’ experience in the childcare sector and is a passionate advocate for PLAY.

Christine believes that play really is a child's work. Child led learning, outdoor play, real life experiences, offering risk and challenge are all deeply embedded in her pedagogy. She follows the Curiosity Approach which takes inspiration from Early Years pioneers such as Montessori, Steiner, the Reggio Emilia Approach and the curriculum of New Zealand Te Whariki. This approach shares Y Pelican's ethos around sustainability and she is looking forward to helping develop the nursery as a Curiosity Approach inspired setting.

Christine also has a passion for being outdoors with her family, lost in the wild, away from daily modern life, connecting with nature. She has an extensive book collection and loves to read to unwind at the end of the day. Christine can often be found rummaging through charity shops, recreate & waste savers to see what treasures can be found for our little ones.
